Neurophysiology is a branch of biology and in particular of human physiology that studies the functioning of the neurons and neural networks. A specific feature of neurophysiology is the study and monitoring of the chemoelectrical activity of single nerve cells and of more complex nerve structures.
The discipline also examines cognitive processes from a physiological point of view. From this point of view neurophysiology is integrated together with psychophysiology and physiological psychology as the main core of cognitive science, e.g. it studies the functioning relationships between physiology and cognitive processes or behaviour.
