Functional surgery is a branch of neuro-orthopaedics, a super-specialization that aims to correct lower and/or upper limb deformities due to injury to the central nervous system (stroke, head injury, myelo-lesion, infant cerebral palsy).
Functional surgery is the result of a programme within a rehabilitation project defined by a competent team composed of a physiatrist, neuro-orthopaedic surgeon, physiotherapist, patient and its family members.
The following services are provided:
– muscle-tendon elongations;
– muscle tendon transfer;
These treatments can be done on the shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, foot.
Where necessary both clinical and instrumental as well as surgical checks are provided to monitor the surgical result which takes place at the Laboratory of Movement and Biomechanical Analysis.
